Q. Where can I recycle soft plastics in New Zealand?

A. Soft plastics cannot be placed in household kerbside recycling bins in New Zealand. However, many supermarkets and retail locations offer in-store soft plastic recycling drop-off points through the Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme. Items must be clean and dry and include things like plastic bags and soft packaging.

Recycling availability and accepted materials can vary by region. For the most up-to-date options near you, check your local council website or use Recycling Kiwi to find soft plastic recycling locations. and New Zealand interactive map

Q. What can I recycle with the Shrinker?

A. It’s more than just fruit and vegetable bags! The Shrinker can compact a wide range of clean soft plastics, including bread bags, food wrappers, and plastic film packaging. Click here for a detailed list of what typically can and can’t be recycled click here

Q. What is the Shrinker made of? Is it recycled plastic?

A. The Shrinker is made from 100% post-consumer recycled polypropylene. Each unit gives new life to recycled materials and helps reduce the amount of plastic waste going to landfill.

Q. How big is the Shrinker, and will it fit under the sink?

A. The Shrinker is about 220mm high and 113mm in diameter — perfectly sized to fit under most sinks or inside cupboards. Although we encourage keeping it visible to make collecting soft plastic effortless!

Q. How much soft plastic fits into the Shrinker?

A. Great question! According to our customers, the Shrinker typically holds one to two weeks’ worth of soft plastic waste. Of course, it depends on your household size and shopping habits — but most people are amazed at how much it fits despite its compact design.

Q. What colour is the Shrinker?

A. The Shrinker is a natural light grey — the result of the mix of recycled plastics used to make it. We don’t dye the plastic, giving each batch its own authentic tone. Some Shrinkers may appear lighter or darker depending on the recycled material used.

Q. Is it important that the plastic is clean and free from residue before I compact it in the Shrinker?

A. Yes, please remove as much product residue as possible. For items like meat packaging, simply rinse and dry them before placing into the Shrinker. This keeps your recycling clean, odour-free, and easy to handle.
